Silver Lake Grass Carp Sampling opportunity
It is official! The Washington Bowfishing Association will be partnering with the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife to "arrow and line" sample Silver Lake (Cowlitz Co.) for Triploid Grass Carp (and common carp). This event is a huge step forward for Bowfishing in the Northwest, as we establish our sport as a tool to restore the ecological balance in our waterways. We are very honored that the WDFW and local Bass Clubs trust us with their trophy lake. For this event we will also be partnering up with AMS Bowfishing, which has continually supported our growth over the 5 years.
Event Details: (as known at this time)
Due to volatile weather on the west side and water clarity this will be a night shoot. We will begin before sunset on March 28th- and continue until 8:00am March 29th. You are not required to shoot the entire time, but our goal is to sample as many carp as possible. You are allowed to be on the water before the event but you are not allowed to sample. We will meet prior to sunset (location and time determined later) to go over the protocol and lake specifics.
There are several different private and public launches on the lake. You can find accommodations at Seaquest State Park, Silver Lake Resort, or Silver Cove Resort, and also there is also a hotel in Castle Rock.
This is not a tournament. We will be offering some items to samplers that bring us Big Grass Carp, but please understand that this event is solely for research purposes. We will also be cooking breakfast for all volunteers Sunday morning. The true prize in this event is being able to harvest grass carp in the Northwest and building a strong relationship with WDFW that may lead to other opportunities in the future.
We are restricted by the waterway and WDFW to only allow 25 boats to participate. The amount of samplers on your boat is up to you as long as it is safe.
All samplers must have their 2015 Membership dues paid for before the event, or they will not be allowed to sample.
How to Register for the event?
Thank you to everyone for your interest in this event and we hope that we have a great showing. Most of the WBA board is planning on arriving at the lake Friday Night for some FUN! If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.
See you all soon.
